VT 289 Exits

VT 289 (the Circumferential Highway) was originally going to be I-289, an interstate bypass around Essex Junction. (why would little Essex Junction need a bypass? The "Five Corners" in the center of town was the busiest intersection in the state, and two active at-grade railroad crossings caused significant backups.) Due to environmental concerns, the project was scaled back to a "Super Two", and bears a state route number. The first portion was opened to traffic in November 1993, and there is still debate over how much more will be built.
Unlike other Vermont freeways, VT 289 exit numbers are approximately mile-based, not sequential.
NOTE: Exit and milepost numbering based as if entire Circumferential Highway was in place.
Exits 1, 3, 5, 13 and 15 are educated guesses what the signs will read when/if they are built.
